Final Project (EECE 532)
The final project, comprising an in-class oral presentation and written report, should be an investigation into an area of biomedical microdevices. This could be a review of recent journal papers, with critical discussion of the work.
Example topic areas (should be refined to a more narrow topic for the report and presentation):
- droplet microfluidics (choose a specific application)
- high throughput electrophysiology - patch clamp systems
- BioMEMS and tissue engineering
- microscale PCR reactors
- implantable drug delivery devices
- next generation DNA sequencing technologies
- microfluidic systems for drug screening
- microfluidic fluorescence-activated cell sorting

Presentation Evaluation Criteria
Presentation Schedule, to be announced - December 1
- Copy of final report submitted to
instructor, electronic and hard copy.
No requests for extensions will be granted.
- Instructions for submission to turnitin.com have been emailed to the class.
- Students may wish to review the
Report Guidelines,
which include examples of proper citations.
Reviewing the Report Evaluation Criteria may also guide you as you prepare your report.
- Each graduate student will be assigned to review two reports from the class. Fill out one Report Evaluation (Report Evaluation.doc) for each assigned report and submit each evaluation to the instructor. Your constructive feedback will be provided anonymously to the report authors. These reviews will comprise a portion of your "participation" mark for the course.
The text of the report should comprise at least 5 full pages.
For the paper, use the "Template for Transactions". For the reference list, use the standard
IEEE format
(for examples, see any IEEE Transactions or Journal).
Plagiarism
The act of copying other people's written words or ideas without proper referencing is considered plagiarism. If plagiarism is detected, it may result in disciplinary action such as significant reduction in the mark for the report or failing the course.
The UBC Library has a summary of plagiarism: what it is, the consequences, and remedies.
Final reports will assessed through turnitin.com for academic misconduct.
